MARTÍN, PAINTINGS AND SCULPTURES TO OVERFLY THE CRISIS

This spring Martín, plastic artist born in Seville in 1965, but well established in Barcelona, presents his artwork in a double exhibition into the neighborhood of El Farró in Sant Gervasi, Barcelona. In the restaurant La Coqueria of the Zaragoza street we will be able to appreciate from the 8th of May until de end of June work in small format mainly drawings and in the Espai Cultural Francolí, venue of teresarius: promotors d'art, we will enjoy a selection of medium and big size artwork, paintings and sculptures, from the 8th to the 30th of May.

Art to overcome the crisis? Although it is very true, that we are suffering an economical crisis and that the art is one of the first sectors to denote that, the numbers, this time, say the opposite, it is only necessary to notice in the Arco art fair or in the houses of auctions. And this is because investing in art in in difficult times believed to be a safe betting. Here we present the work of an artist that we entrust soon will be recognized and valued, and at the moment it is still affordable. Moreover, the works of Martín, optimists for nature, seem that want to transmit to us joy in these times of recession that we live.

The work of Martín highlights because of the brightness of colors and the simplicity of composition, standing out mainly daily objects and several means of transport, like his searched bicycles, elevating them to the category of Art in a cheerful and fun way. In effect, the vehicles are a big source of inspiration for Martín, from ancient cars to tractors, skateboards and the already mentioned bicycles, where the wheel is the main protagonist, and the classical forms relive with the living and intense colors with those that Martín paints them.

Blenders, coffee pots, drills, power saws, shopping trolleys, graters... We like his work, inspired in his more immediate environment, precisely because of the fact that he transforms objects of the daily world into poetry, he paints them and fills in them with strength and life to exalt them until converting them into Art in upper case. This effect goes through the canvas and surrounds us. Martín uses the color with courage and achieves to transmit to us, with the transgression of the colors, their force and at the same time their sensitivity.

JORDI TORTOSA

Jordi Tortosa Cortadellas was born in Sant Cugat del Vallès in 1959. His childhood goes by in the paternal family house, typical house with cellar, stable for the horse, hens... The streets were not paved and in the kitchen the fire was permanently on to heat the water. Some years later his family moves to a flat of new construction on the carpentry of his maternal grandfather. A whole world to exalt the imagination of the boy. At the twenty years, finished the military service leaves the work and marches to see world with a rucksack on shoulder. Some years afterwards, devoted to the computer science, he starts to paint.

In the empty spaces of the canvas, he sees reflected his own empty spaces. Any old how, he fills in more and more big sized canvases; but the work that he waits for resists to be gone out and he will still have to wait some years until atemperin the problems of identity that consumed him. Finally, however, and with the painting as a tool of introspection, he achieves to win the battle to his doubts and the ideas start to flow and to condense in painting.

After a constant evolution he achieves to reflect in his pictures a different, much clearer and expressive image, balanced. He consolidates a free and disannoyed style where the distortion in ways makes possible to bring to light hidden or ephemeral aspects of the reality like the instant, the environment and the feeling. In the research of more internal languages, pictures appear where the abstract language predominates. It is a matter of a personal research to be able to tie what a day got loose among the inside and the requirement to reveal the privacy of the space and the moment, inseparable. A privacy that appears from the family places, of where we are. He simplifies the stroke and the color predominates, above everything, to show those places that are opposed to the daily life. That which is diametrally opposite to the day to day, to the routine. His works represent, moreover, an indicator of his worries, aesthetic as well as philosophycal. The research of an own point of view it is no more than the research of a conceptual referent that makes order in a life untidy and worried.
