Born in 1938 in the Garrotxa, Catalonia, Miquel Torner de Semir has always felt attracted by the Middle Ages. His teacher, Ricard Marlet, introduced him in the Modernism and Catalan Noucentism. Other great influences are Velázquez, the artistic trends of the parisian painting of the 20th century, Giotto and the Italian Reinacence. All of this makes his work, as he himself affirms, to be between the old and the new.

The painter marks the silhouettes of the main elements of each composition with strong and precise lines and uses the flat and pure colors for expressing the feelings. His palette is almost always cheerful, of living colors. When it is feasible for him he paints the picture within the picture, and also he paints interpretations and signs of abstract look in his canvases to be find. In this way he achieves a positive relationship among the several forms of artistic expression that they motivate him and his plastic language ibecomes much richer and attractive.

He has his own style, which it is based in the simplicity of the realization in a very well structured composition. His welllknown, valued and searched feminines, known as the meninas, have the slow forms of the religious art and express the serenity to the one that all the realizations of the spirit have to obey. The figure is useful to him for asking for order and rhythm in the human actions, his paintings are ethical. Torner de Semir achieves to communicate positive sensations with facility in those that know his work.
