Paul Klee said that the function of the art is not just to represent what is visible but to make a new reality visible. And that is to say, precisely, what Marta Montcada obtains when building a new and captivating reality: her spaces, where with exact arrangement, fine execution and energetic gentleness, arise the most intimate resonances of elements that have motivated them. In her engravings and paintings on paper, - Marta Montcada has special predilection for this support -, awake the secrets with its gentleness, transparencies and subtleties, originating a whole of beautiful abstractions, their presence going farther beyond the same real elements where they have been generated, spreading to a world of joyfully images. To the works by Marta Montcada we can apply the concept by Okakura-Kakuzo in his Book of the Tea: “To the magical touch of the beauty, the most secret fibbers of our sensitivity arise from lethargy in response to their calling, vibrate and tremble. The spirit speaks to the spirit. We feel what is not yet spoken, we contemplate the invisible”. (...)

Josep Maria MIRÓ LLULL, painter and writer. CITY of Majorca

Marta Montcada’s painting arises from the joining of the sky and the earth, the abstract and the natural. She creates an internal order in her compositions that harmoniously combine the concentration and expansion of the elements, reaching further than the limits imposed by the work’s support, revealing moments of inexhaustible action.

Her work deeply penetrates the search for the beginning of the universe and its elements, recreating them in a thousand different ways, giving shape and colour to the contents of her imagination. This search means that the artist shows us fragments of this world, containing the essence of the first moment in which some elements take shape and colour and become a reality. She captures the atmosphere which surrounds the structures and which brings balance to the composition, creating the feeling that everything is there and in its proper place. In this way each fragment is a cosmos within itself, able to coexist in harmony with the other fragments, peacefully, without losing its independence or identity.

The elements of nature that we see are light traces of the sensitive world that visibly appears in the expanding universe.
Marta Montcada imagines this cosmos in different colours, but of them all, the use of blue stands out in an infinity of tones and nuances; conjuring up images of nocturnal space and oceanic depths with all their latent magic, in which everything emerges and floats. She situates herself like this, inside reality, at its roots. Her creativity shows us this multi-shaped cosmos that emerges from a non-existent place in her paintings; from nothing like the origin of matter, shapes and colours. She captures the essence of reality presenting it simply and naturally. From her work it is easy to contemplate or imagine this infinite expanding space in constant movement.

Marta Montcada shows us what remains, what already existed before us. She shows us that everything is enveloping us with dual intention.  She invites us to look for the essence of this magical world which is opened up before us, and she questions us on the place that we humans occupy in this universe of which we are absent and yet of which we form a part. Her creation is not complete until the spectator, external agent of the work, places himself in front and becomes a part of it. (...)
