It is not easy to see beyond the surface of the things, maybe for lack of concentration or probably for a question of time or "times". Between representation and abstraction, the works of Francisco Chamayou lead the spectator to the improvement of the physical and sensorial limits, which once after another impose themselves, to discover the mystery that there is behind.

It is a rich and dense painting, made of overlaying surfaces, of personal signs and of colors that take hold of the canvas without hesitations.
The artist transports these coordinates to his fantastic world, where we refind them impregnated with a special symbolic potential.
Mysterious figures, in silence, of soft factions and tenuous colors, give life to a magical reality. They captivate the look of the spectator and expand it beyond any visible limit, referring to an almost fundamental world: the immense spiritual universe of the artist.

If the first works are distinguished for a figuration of fantastic nature, the most recent have filtered and had condensed the memory up to the limits of the abstraction.

Indisputable protagonists are especially the surrounding colors, dense and corporal. The colors of the lands that he has known. The artist starts like this a new real and symbolic trip, and at the same time that he goes beyond any traditional schema and through free associations, it leads him to the discovery of a new method to express the forces and the suggestions of the nature.

The crucial point is always the life or, better still, the existential condition of the modern man and his states of mind. The conscience of the loneliness, the overwhelming weight of the incommunicability and to the same one time, the urgent need to share, common to every human being.

Through the connection among color and stroke, both ones originated by an internal instinct, the painting is configured almost as a writing deprived of the painter and his picture turns like this into the record of a moment of life.

The stroke delineates a thought, the color interprets it. The emotions are just suggested and last what the artist grants in the fast succession of internal impressions. Therefore the journey continues without pauses and without doubts.

Among fragments of personal stories that are intertwined the ones with the others, it comes about the discovery of the hidden human mystery in the horizon of what is daily happening.

Barcelona 1947

Pupil of the Teacher Victor Esteban Ripaux in Barcelona.
In 1970 he initiates a journey that leads him to live in different places: Canary Islands, France, Belgium and Holland.
Between 1970 and 1976 he settles in the South of Italy where he lives together with the seafaring world and peasant of the place. Different spaces and galleries start to show his works, which are well received by the public and the critique. He knows artists of the place, establishing ribbons of friendship and collaboration that persist.
After his return to Catalonia, he installs his study in the region of Osona.
In 1995 goes to Mexico, where remains until 2002.
At present he lives and works in El Raval, his natal neighborhood, in Barcelona.
